    About Antigua & Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda, a former British colony comprising two principal islands, also encompasses smaller islets such as Green, York, Long, and Maiden. Nestled in the Caribbean Sea, to the southeast of Puerto Rico, its climate remains consistently tropical and maritime, featuring minimal seasonal temperature fluctuations.

The nation boasts a population of 100,772 residents in total. Its capital, Saint John’s, stands as the most densely inhabited city, followed by All Saints and Liberta. The primary and sole operational airport is V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU), catering to approximately 1 million passengers annually. It pays homage to Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, the inaugural prime minister of the country, and serves as a gateway to destinations across the Caribbean, Europe, and the United States.

Antigua and Barbuda’s cultural tapestry is intricately woven with the historical imprints of immigration waves spanning centuries. The nation exhibits a rich multicultural and religious diversity, with Christianity being the predominant faith. English serves as the official language, while the native Antiguan creole dialect endures. Legal structures draw from English common law, operating within a parliamentary democracy framework and constitutional monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II holds the position of head of state, with Prime Minister Gaston Browne elected as the head of government.

The Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD), permanently pegged to the USD at an exchange rate of XCD 2.7, serves as the official currency. Antigua and Barbuda maintain an open economy, boasting a GDP of approximately $2.7 billion, ranking as the 28th largest economy in the Caribbean. Citizens enjoy a per capita income of $29,298, with the services sector predominantly contributing to the GDP, tourism alone accounting for over 60%.

This picturesque nation teems with an array of urban and natural tourist attractions, rendering it a favored destination for visitors. Renowned for its expansive beaches and natural beauty, notable landmarks encompass the world-renowned Half Moon Bay, Stingray City, the Nelson’s Dockyard National Park, and the capital, St. John’s. Each year, around 270,000 tourists grace the islands, predominantly hailing from North America and Europe

During its meeting on December 11, 2014, the Antigua and Barbuda Cabinet decided that individuals who successfully obtain Citizenship by Investment will not be permitted to alter their name through a Deed Poll or any other method for the purpose of obtaining an Antigua and Barbuda passport.

Individuals traveling to Antigua and Barbuda who would typically need a visa to enter can now obtain a Visa Waiver upon arrival if they possess one of the following valid travel documents. The cost for this waiver is US$100, and it is valid for 30 days. The accepted documents include:

    USA Visa or ‘Green Card.’
UK Entry certificate or residence permit.
Canadian Visa or Permanent Residence card.
    Schengen Visa or residence permit.

During its meeting on February 26, 2020, the Antigua and Barbuda Cabinet made updates to the list of Restricted Countries as follows:

The Restricted Countries List now includes:

Individuals born in these restricted countries, who migrated before reaching adulthood, and/or have lived in a country other than those on the restricted list for at least 10 years while having no financial connections to any restricted country.

Additionally, all applicants must fully adhere to the due diligence requirements of the Program.

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has taken this step to protect the integrity of the Antigua and Barbuda passport, ensuring that only individuals with a history that doesn’t pose a threat to the Citizenship Program’s credibility are accepted.

All individuals aged 16 and above, who have lived in Canada for more than 6 months, must present a Canadian police certificate.
